Sunlight
December 5, 2007 -- This morning the New York Attorney
General Andrew Cuomo, along with Blair Horner, unveiled a new
website called Project Sunlight which has been in development for a
little over a year.
The site will give the public access to the workings of state
government and the information it keeps by combining public
information from multiple databases kept by a variety of agencies
and departments, including the Board of Elections and the Public
Integrity Commission.
Currently, Project Sunlight allows you to search data related to an
elected official, campaign finance, legislation, lobbying,
registered corporations and charities. In addition, the website
offers educational videos, a glossary, and basic information on New
York State government.
The campaign finance records on the site,
www.SunlightNY.com,
currently reflect calendar year 2006 and the first half of 2007
disclosure reporting periods. The lobbying records reflect reporting
from January 2007 through July 2007.
The listing of state contracts only shows new contracts that have
been approved by the Office of State Comptroller since the start of
2006 through July 2007. The member items listed are those that were
approved in the 2007 New York State Budget for the 2007-2008 fiscal
year. The legislation listed on the site is for the current
legislative session (2007-2008) only.
